Background These two identical workshops are to prepare teachers for training their students to participate in the Budding Poets (English) Award. Detail information about the competition can be found in circular memorandum CM 9/2006. 
Objective(s) 1) To encourage the teaching of poetry 2) To encourage the use of poetry in teaching English 3) To introduce a variety of poetic structures and devices 4) To develop strategies for assisting entrants in the Budding Poets (English) Award  
Programme Description This workshop will look at the structure of words and the grouping of words into rhyming families. The concepts of onset and rime will be developed. Various poetic structures will be deconstructed to reveal elements of rhythm and scanning. Also revealed will be the use of alliteration and other devices which contribute to a poem's auditory appeal. The use of simile and metaphor to enrich poetic imagery will be considered. Participants will be involved in using models and templates to develop student friendly strategies for writing poems.

Remarks 1. ALL on-line applications should be nominated and approved by the school authority. Prior application is required and walk-ins will NOT be entertained.

2. Special Arrangements for Bad Weather

b. Course / Activity for afternoon session will be resumed when Typhoon Signal No.8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is cancelled at or before 11:30 am. Otherwise, Course / Activity for afternoon session will continue to be cancelled.
c. Participants will be notified for further arrangement in due course.

3. Car Park Arrangement
