Background The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) will organize an Overseas Immersion Programme (the Programme) for English Teachers in Primary Schools in Hong Kong in 2008/09 School Year. 
Objective(s) Four-week programmes will focus on training on curriculum leadership, supervising and coaching staff; teacher and resource development; as well as planning and development of a balanced English language curriculum. The programmes are most suitable for serving English panel chairs and more experienced teachers. Six-week programmes will focus on English language learning and teaching, as well as planning and development of a balanced English language curriculum. The programmes are suitable for all English teachers. 
Programme Description This is a four-week or six-week Overseas Immersion Programme sponsored by the SCOLAR. Each programme would include academic programmes offered by overseas institutes, visits and placements in local primary schools in the visiting country, cultural visits and activities; and home-stay accommodation arrangement.

Remarks 1. Schools should ensure the nominated teachers have fulfilled the application requirements stated on page 2 of the invitation letter dated 14 May 2008. The letter is attached for easy reference.
2. Details of the course content can be found on the website of SCOLAR: http://www.language-education.com
3. Please submit your application through TCS. Participants MUST write up and attach a draft action plan to be implemented in your school after completion of the Programme in the application form ('Additional Remarks and Attachments from Applicant to School and Course Organiser') using the template attached in TCS. The plan MUST not exceed 300 words. You can beef up the action plan upon completion of the immersion programme.
4. School heads MUST provide reasons for recommending the teachers and indicate priority (if there are more than one nomination) in the column of 'School Priority & Recommendations to Course Organiser'
5. Applicants are allowed to choose up to three programmes with priority but only one programme will be offered when the application is accepted.
6. Applicants should note that should they chose a programme falls in the 2nd term as their 1st choice, the 2nd and 3rd choices should also be the 2nd term programmes. Should the 1st choice be a 1st term programme, the 2nd and 3rd choices can either be 1st term or 2nd term programmes. That means, applicants who have chosen a 1st term programme as their 1st choice should submit their application on/before 10 Jul 08 and applicants who have chosen 2nd term programme as their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices should submit their application on/before 30 Sep 08.
7. The successful departure of individual programmes would be subject to various circumstantial factors, including the number of teachers interested in that programme.
8. Applicants will be notified of the results on 17 July 2008 for 1st term programmes and 10 October 2008 for 2nd term programmes. Notification e-mail will be sent to your e-services e-mail address and the e-mail address you provide in the application form. Principals of individual schools will also be informed by mail separately after 17 July and 10 October 2008.
9. Successful applicants will be required to submit relevant enrollment forms and undertaking to the programme provider and SCOLAR,and settle the 15% programme fee two weeks after the result announcement.
