Objective(s) The course aims to support participants in integrating language arts (LA) activities into the secondary English language curriculum as a response to the current curriculum reform initiatives. On completion of the course, participants will have: 1. developed competence in planning a coherent language arts curriculum for the junior and senior levels; 2. developed knowledge of the use of school based assessment of students' performance in LA activities; and 3. developed confidence and competence in designing and using stories, drama, poetry, the mass media, and related activities for language learning.  
Programme Description The course comprises modules in the following areas of study: Part 1: Curriculum and Methodology - Principles and Strategies for School-based Curriculum Renewal with Language Arts: Planning and Assessment - Promoting the Learning of English through Stories and Drama - Promoting the Learning of English through Poems, Song Lyrics and the Mass Media Part 2: Classroom-based/School-based Project Participants either design a literature-based teaching unit, implement it in their schools, and reflect on the process and the outcome of the project in an evaluation report, or design a language arts curriculum for their schools, implement a selected component/programme of the curriculum, and reflect on the process and the outcome in an evaluation report.
