| Background | This Government-funded course is approved by the Education Bureau (EDB). Schools which release teachers undertaking this course may apply for supply teachers. | Objective(s) | The Course aims to provide in-service primary and secondary school English teachers with an introductory knowledge about what diversity in education means for the language class. Please see details at: http://www.ied.edu.hk/acadprog/pdc/bwc054.htm | ||||||||||||||||||
| Programme Description | The course comprises three core modules as follows: 1. The Characteristics of Diversity This module introduces participants to the scope and nature of the diverse intake that is likely to be encountered in Hong Kong mainstream schools. 2. Assessing Diversity in English Language Learning This module introduces participants to the issue of how to identify, assess and profile the diverse populations that are now likely to be encountered in the English language classroom in Hong Kong schools. 3. Accommodating Diversity in English Language Teaching This module strengthens participants' awareness of how typically developing children learn languages. It also focuses on how to evolve appropriate helping strategies for Hong Kong primary and secondary students whose learner profiles, capacities and behaviours may differ both positively and negatively from the norm. | ||||||||||||||||||

‧in-service primary or secondary school English Language teachers; and ‧recommended by their school principals; 2. Applications should be made to the Hong Kong Institute of Education direct; 3.
