Background The EDB has organised the Intensive Training Programmes on STEM Education (ITP) from 2017/18 to 2019/20 school year for curriculum leaders of all publicly-funded secondary schools. To further promote STEM education, the EDB would conduct a new round of ITP from 2020/21 to 2022/23 school year to further enhance the professional development for (1) STEM coordinators, and (2) frontline teachers, covering the topics of curriculum planning, activity design and the use of relevant learning, teaching and assessment strategies relating to STEM education. Teachers may choose to enrol in one of the two programmes according to their teaching needs, which will help further strengthen their professional capabilities in implementing STEM education. This programme is the pilot programme of the new round of ITP for STEM teachers of secondary schools.

To facilitate the implementation of STEM education in schools, a series of STEM related professional development programmes is being organised for teachers. Major components of the professional development programmes to be provided are: (A) Learning, Teaching and Assessment; (B) Enriching Knowledge; and (C) Curriculum Planning. This course belongs to the component of "(A) Learning, Teaching and Assessment ".
Objective(s) 1. To provide opportunities for the participants to develop/modify their own schools’ STEM learning and teaching activities, student assignments and related assessment tasks

2. To enhance learning, teaching and assessment strategies for paradigm shift in conducting STEM learning and teaching activities in schools

3. To provide knowledge updates on the relevant scientific and technological advancements, as well as hands-on and minds-on experience for the participants to apply and integrate learning elements of Science Education, Technology Education and Mathematics Education

4. To provide opportunities for sharing good practices on STEM education among schools
Programme Description The course will last for 12 hours, comprising four 3-hour sessions:

Session 1: Designing of STEM Learning and Teaching Activities

Sessions 2 and 3: Workshops of STEM Activities

Session 4: School Sharing and Feedback

The modes of the course will include lectures, workshops and experience sharing sessions. After the completion of sessions 1 – 3, the participants have to prepare a sharing of their learning outcomes, with the focus on enhancing the design of STEM learning, teaching and assessment activities in their schools, and their self-reflection as the role of STEM teachers in schools. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants who have completed the course and submitted all the assignments.
